When it comes to risk factors for heart disease – like high cholesterol and high blood pressure – one plus one equals facing a possible three to five or even nine times higher! Adding the risk factors may even increase it.

You can not change certain risk factors such as age or family history. But you can change others, such as hypercholesterolemia. This is good news.

Some other good news: The American Heart Association offers a free program called cholesterol low, you can learn your risk of heart disease. The program asks you to do three things to protect your heart:

1) Visit your doctor.

Even if you feel healthy, you need your doctor regularly. Schedule an appointment to talk about heart disease risk.

2) Do you know your cholesterol.

High cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease. If you are under 20, you need to know your cholesterol.

3) Do you know your other risk factors for heart disease.

Many things can put you at risk for heart disease. The risk is much higher if you have more than one risk factor. High cholesterol is a risk factor for you should be aware, some are listed below. Make it a priority to maintain control over those you can change.

* Rooms

* Family of heart disease

* Diet rich in fatty foods (like cheese and cream)

* Age

* Hypertension

* Diabetes

* Obesity

* High levels of triglycerides

* The abuse of alcohol (more than one drink per day for women, and) more than two drinks per day for men.
